About Antique Authentication

Established in 1997 and based in Hong Kong, Antique Authentication specialises in authenticating antiques using scientific methods. Our clients include major auction houses, internationally recognised art dealers and museums, as well as private collectors. Antique Authentication provides thermoluminescence testing for fired ceramics; radiocarbon dating for objects made from organic materials such as wood, textiles, ivory, bone and lacquer; stone analysis for most kinds of stone; metallurgy analysis for bronze, gold, silver and iron; and CT scanning and X-ray for the majority of materials.

 

Founder and Managing Director Phyllis Hsia came to Hong Kong from the United States in 1993 with an extensive educational and business background in fine arts. In addition to providing services of scientific authentication, she is also recognised for her work as a conservator and restorer of rare and fine antiquities, with particular emphasis in the area of Asian works of art. Since 1997, she has worked as exclusive agent in the Asia region for UK based Oxford Authentication Ltd.

 

Managing Director Gianfranco Bigazzi came to Asia from Italy in 1985 with a degree in engineering. Fulfilling his interest and passion for art and antiques, he joined Antique Authentication in 2015. He has an extensive background in Asia business development, market analysis and regional management with a focus on mainland China and is proficient in Mandarin. In addition to being an expert technician with unmatched skill, he has also made significant advancements in tooling and sampling techniques.
